UoY Wireless Society

From amateur radio to LoRa mesh networking, the University of York Wireless Society (UoY WS) is a welcoming community of UoY students, staff and alumni exploring practical uses of wireless technologies.

The UoY Wireless Society meets every other Wednesday afternoon in the Crossrail Laboratory in the Computer Science building. (CSE/166). Come along and say hello, no prior radio experience required!

Amateur Radio

The UoY WS runs an amateur radio station under the callsign M0UOY. Listen out for us on the airwaves!

If you're interested in getting your own radio license, come along to one of our sessions to find out more.

LoRa Technologies

Some of our members are currently playing around with low cost LoRa mesh networking devices, such as Meshtastic. You can pick up a node for as little as £20 to join the network!

Digital Voice Modes

Some of our members frequently experiment with digital voice modes such as DMR (Digital Mobile Radio). This mode is easy to access with affordable equipment, and can enable secure, peer-to-peer communication.
